Authoritative evidence that the Prime Minister's beloved peace process in Northern Ireland is actually an appeasement process that has allowed terror to continue to flourish, albeit under cover. The Independent Monitoring Commission in Northern Ireland has documented how paramilitaries have taken over the streets. It also explicitly links Sinn Fein and the IRA (now there's a surprise). As the Times reports:
'It says that the two arms of the republican movement remain intrinsically linked, to such an extent that the IRA ordered so-called “punishment attacks” to be all but halted in the run-up to the Northern Ireland Assembly election so that its political wing could reap the benefits. In the most explicit assessment of the IRA’s capabilities since its ceasefire began in 1994, the report says that the group “remains active and in a high state of readiness. It has been undertaking training in the early part of this year. It maintains a capacity on intelligence, on political events, on potential targets and on weaponry.” '
And as the Telegraph reports, the IRA kidnapped the dissident republican Bobby Tohill. Nor was this all:
'Other paramilitary groups were also condemned. The loyalist terrorist Ulster Defence Association and Ulster Volunteer Force were both heavily involved in murders, paramilitary attacks and criminality. The commissioners said they were "deeply concerned," about continued paramilitary activity which had found an "inappropriate tolerance" in Northern Ireland society presenting the "biggest long-term threat" to the rule of law. '
In other words, Northern Ireland has degenerated into a kind of mafia state. So much for peace processes which, instead of fighting terror to the death, cause democracy and the rule of law to lie down and die instead.
