Concerned Christians in Canada have spoken up against the 'alarming increase in antisemitism' in their country. Earlier this year, there were reports of a '60 per cent rise in anti-Semitic incidents in 2002, including harassment and violence against Jewish individuals, synagogue attacks in Saskatoon and Quebec City, and the firebombing of a Montreal theatre showing Jewish films'. Now Christians across denominations have said: '"This anti-Semitism has taken many forms, including violence against Jewish persons simply because of their ethnic or religious background, and the desecration of holy places and cemeteries...We urge all within our church communities and indeed, all Canadians, to exercise the greatest diligence on behalf of our Jewish friends and neighbours, that when they come under attack, and their sacred places desecrated, that they find true solidarity in establishing security and in redressing wrong."'
True solidarity -- and elementary decency, in response to the moral corruption now infecting and weakening the west. What a contrast to the silence -- and sometimes actual connivance at this evil -- by the churches in Britain.
Yesterday the Bundestag in Berlin debated Anti-Semitism, wanting less of it.
Somehow, I doubt that the people who cause the problem are influenced by such things: it is just a marker from the elites, rather than a solution.
Exactly, will be interesting to see if they actually do anything about it in Canada. Doing something about it might risk "offending" thier Islamic population.
It's about time someone spoke the truth and spoke up!
As long as so-called "moderate" Muslims keep silent, they will be seen as supporters of Islamic anti-Semitism and Islamic terrorism. Time for the tolerance in Islam to show itself!
I am waiting for massive demonstrations in the West AGAINST Islamic terror emulating the massive demonstrations in Islamic countries supporting such terror. I am waiting for our clerics to rail against Islamic terrorism from the pulpit every Sunday as Islamic clerics scream for jihad every Friday.
Then, the culture war desired and perpetrated by ObL and al Qaeda will have become a self fulfilling prophesy.

Don't hold your breath Lili
I don't think the church in the UK has any idea what it stands for least of all it's mission to proclaim righteousness.
Some nice buildings though.
Where were the mass demonstrations against genocide in Iraq and against Nato sponsored Turkish bombing of small villages in northern Iraq.
Let's not miss out on the women & child smuggling from Latvia, Russia and the Balkens to service Nato brothels in the Balkens.
So why bother about anti semitism or Muslim double standards?
They're only Jews, mustn't upset anyone or else they'll start reminding us of our past.
Oh I forgot the EU funding of terror against Jewish children and mustn't forget the spirited EU defence of the Israeli resolution against violence against their children from suicide bombers.
Wouldn't want to miss those mass demonstrations on TV, seeing Whitehall full of heaving mobs demanding the UK and other EU states deal to the bombers instead of paying for them.
Oh No, can you imagine the scenes of violence against the police and property (McD's) by incensed people at their governments funding of state education for pre and primary school children that portrays Jews and Christians as monkeys and worthy of killing.
That also features the Western democracies as being inferior and worthy of jihad to take them over.
Yeah, I can't wait to see TVNZ reporting them, but doubt it in my lifetime.
The Church in UK is so lukewarm it probably tastes like piss.
Maybe it reflects the greater society in a way doesn't it?
Best
Mike NZ
Mike NZ has a point. The Church in the West has lost its way and is swamped in moral relativism, afriad to uphold absolutes. It is always so with human beings, and another Martin Luther is needed for another Reformation........it is too easy to become a secular institution kow-towing to the secular elite; but even that is not 'modern' but has a long history of lazy men being intellectually lazy and moral cowards.
"Oh I forgot the EU funding of terror against Jewish children and mustn't forget the spirited EU defence of the Israeli resolution against violence against their children from suicide bombers"
THe EU does not have a vote at the United Nations and hopefully it never will !
The EU shamefully continues to finance the people in the West Bank in areas occupied by Israel. Under the Geneva Conventions this is Israel's obligation as the Occupying Power and it should start to feed and provide funds to run this area instead of expecting the EU to subsidise it.
In Iraq major powers like Britain and USA do so, time for Israel to stop using EU taxpayers money to fund its occupation zones.
Melanie,
Where is your ringing condemnation of the much more common and prominent anti-Muslim hatred in Europe and elsewhere? I can't seem to find it.
