Goebbels grotto

The web is unfortunately teeming with demented conspiracy theories about the Jews. One does not, however, expect to see such clearly psychotic material printed in all seriousness in a mainstream British newspaper. But the Sunday Herald has done just that with this piece by Neil Mackay, who has floated a truly crackpot and disgusting suggestion that Israel's secret service may have known in advance of the 9/11 plot but did nothing. Here's a sample of this garbage:

'And the motive? To bind America in blood and mutual suffering to the Israeli cause. After the attacks on New York and Washington, the former Israeli Prime Minister, Benjamin Netanyahu, was asked what the terrorist strikes would mean for US-Israeli relations. He said: “It’s very good.” Then he corrected himself, adding: “Well, it’s not good, but it will generate immediate sympathy [for Israel from Americans].'

Sheer, undiluted, poisonous fantasy. People really do believe that this is the kind of thing Israel is capable of doing. Such is the venom now coursing through the British bloodstream.

What is it about Scotland (the home of George galloway) that lends itslef to so much anti Smeitism? Is it too cold there?

Nonetheless, those with something to gain by sowing the seeds of divisiveness would have us believe that Israel had advance warning of the World Trade Center attack, that they managed to
surreptitiously notify 4,000 Jews who worked in the two towers, but that they left the U.S. completely unaware of the danger. ("Hello, David Rosenberg? This is the Mossad. Listen, don't go to work on Tuesday. Yeah, another terrorist attack on the U.S. . . . call in sick. And remember, not a word to any of your gentile relatives, friends, or co-workers.") And even though this scoop to top all scoops is now winging its way all over the Internet, the American press unlike the intrepid Sunday Herald, apparently still remains completely in the dark about the nefarious scheme thanks to those clever neo-Conservative cosmopolitans. Is it any surprise that this story emanated from Pravda and Al-Manar Television, the pro-Palestinian "Channel of Arabs and Muslims," and has been spread by various neo nazi websites including those of David Duke?

Well... a True Scotsman would be offended that anyone would think "The World Jewish Conspiracy" was half as effective as "The FreeMason Wolrd Conspiracy"!!! It's an Insult to Scots everywhere to suggest that we're inferior conspirators to the "Elders of Zion"!!! Galloway is probably just bitter because no Lodge would stoop to extending him an offer for membership, and being too craven and unenlightened to admit his bigotry wasn't in keeping with the spirit of Universal Brotherhood, he decended to gutter variety, crass Jew-baiting like the proper demagogue that he is.

Of couse I'm kidding about everything... except Galloway and those like him demonstrating the kind of character flaws that will always lead men to justify greater and greater evils in their desire and pursuit of power and wealth and fame. The only positive aspect of such men holding positions that allow them to spew their pathetic venom in public, particularly in our era, is that those of us who actually are willing to fight to resist tyranny and the "fetishism of dictatorship" are well warned to keep our metaphorical guns well oiled and likely enemies where we can see them.

More double standards at work. Immediately after Sept. 11 I seem to remember all sorts of people were being rounded up because they looked Middle Eastern. Of course in the case of Muslims everyone raised their hands in horror at this "racial profiling", but when they're Israelis, well, hmmm, maybe there's something in it... The way I heard it, these were simply youngsters who had overstayed their visas and were working illegally for a moving company (like many others do). I think their reaction on seeing the towers go up in flames was something like "Wow, look at that!" rather than celebration. Anyway, after spending some time in prison they were sent back to Israel and appeared on TV looking very sheepish.

Ilana,

I seem to remember all sort's of foreign Nationals from middle eastern Country's being rounded up and deported after 9/11 if they lacked a valid US Visa. This is the definition of "Illegal alien", and I'd be curious to know why one regions foreign Nationals should have carte blanche to violate immigration laws merely because of their religion or skin tone??? Are you suggesting that the INS wasn't acting appropriatelly in making an extra effort to confirm the Visa status of people from a select list of Countries, mostly Muslim, whom the INS had reason to believe had failed to comply with US immigration law??? After 9/11?

I DO remember the item below posted on a website that collects US public documents (mostly mug shots) and posts them on the web. It's titled "Terrorism 101 - a how-to guide", and is fascinating reading. It's especially something British citizens should read considering the copy used in the US court case was found in Manchester, England.

From SmokingGun.com:
"In the year since the September 11 attacks, few more chilling documents have emerged than "Military Studies in the Jihad Against the Tyrants," a how-to terrorism manual that investigators believe has been used by followers of Osama bin Laden.

"The 180-page volume, seized from the Manchester, England home of a bin Laden disciple, offers jihad members guidance on subjects such as assassination, forging documents, and preparing poisons in its 18 chapters. The terrorism manual was placed into evidence last year by prosecutors during the federal trial of four men accused of involvement in the 1998 bombing of U.S. embassies in Kenya and Tanzania (the below English translation was also placed in evidence). All four defendants were convicted and sentenced to life in prison."

If you are able to read this publication, Ilana, and still maintain that the review of Visa's issued to holders of specific Nations passposts (NOT 'middle easterners') was unjustified, I'd be fascinated to read your reasoning to argue such...

Alexander: You misunderstand me. I never said the INS shouldn't round up illegal aliens. The point I was trying to make is that people were rounded up for looking Middle Eastern. Some were illegal, some not, but people were shocked at the "racial profiling" aspect - until the people involved were not Arabs but Jews, and then the conspiracy theories took off. In this case, as far as I know, the Israelis involved were simply that, illegal aliens, but the article is implying they were actually Mossad agents. As illegal aliens, yes, deport them. But the conspiracy theory is something else entirely.

Ilana,

I live outside Detroit. Detroit (the metro area) is a US city with one of the largest Muslim populations in America. Because of the variety and number of established Muslim communities (of various sects and Nationalities), the area attracts Muslim families from across the US and from abroad, as one would expect. Here are some points for you to consider....

Most Muslims aren't any more "middle eastern" looking than southern Italians, and few people would be able to distinguish any 'racial' difference between an southern Italian and an Iranian who'd both grown up in Detroit. Nor could most people distinguish any difference between a Hindi Indian and a Muslim Indian or Muslim Bangladeshi in 'racial' terms. On top of this... the Christian communities from the middle east have ALSO migrated to this area in great numbers, especially from the middle east. A Lebanese Christian is impossible to distinguish via appearance or accent from a Lebanese Muslim.

This is why there wasn't any "round up" of 'middle eastern" looking people in my State. There's SO MANY people that fit that description that it'd be meaningless to 'round' them up.
